nomi wiersma, BFA (HONS.) DANCE THEATRE, AISTD MODERN THEATRE, TAP DANCE
Local dance professional Nomi Wiersma (she/her) is excited to be joining the faculty at Carousel Dance Centre as the senior Modern teacher. Nomi is currently a member of two dance companies; Dancetheatre David Earle and Vintage Taps, and also frequently works on freelance projects for both film and stage in the KW and Toronto areas.
Nomi has been dancing professionally in Ontario since 2018, when she returned to Kitchener after spending 5 years abroad training and performing. She attended two prestigious dance colleges: Bird College (London, UK) and both the NYC and LA campuses of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) where she received extensive training in several dance genres, as well as music and drama. Since moving back to Ontario, Nomi has performed in the Toronto and Windsor Fringe festivals, danced for several artistic short films, travelled back to NYC to premiere new work, and much more. Nomi completed her Associate exams with the ISTD in both Modern Theatre and Tap and continues to take regular Continuing Professional Development courses through the ISTD.
Nomi is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusivity. She recognizes her extensive privileges and is committed to dismantling oppressive beliefs in every space she is a part of.
Nomi’s favourite thing to do in her free time is play with her cat Melvyn and her 4 backyard chickens.
