Congratulations Carousel dancers on a fantastic performance with the symphony this weekend. A big thanks to our amazing choreographers Laura & Holly and to our team of sewers who worked so hard on the costumes: Julie, Susan, Rebecca, Xi, Janet, Louise, Sarah, Caterina, Andrea & Kelly. Thanks also to Saundra, our volunteer coordinator. Students and parents are invited to join us for a Dance Company Meeting on Saturday May 7th from 5:00-5:45pm. Students who will be enrolled in Level 2 or above during the 2016/2017 dance season are eligible to join. Come out to the meeting to learn more about dance company, the requirements and the performance opportunities for next season.
The general company meeting will be followed by a brief meeting for those students interested in joining touring company. Students must be entering 5B level in the fall. Application process as well as touring company events and performance opportunities will be discussed. The touring company meeting will be held from 5:45-6:15pm. We look forward to seeing you then! Please check the DANCE COMPANY MEMBER PAGE. New rehearsals have been added for Touring Company Dancers, Piece O and the senior dancers in Piece A. This is also a reminder that for the remainder of the Big Band rehearsals, all dancers will be required to stay right until the end of rehearsals.
We are very excited to announce guest choreographers for touring company who will begin creating a new dance work in February. We look forward to the premiere of this new touring company piece at our April 10th Registry Theatre Performance. Welcome to our guest choreographers - Peter Kelly & Carolyn Morris.
PETER KELLY Born in Guelph Ontario, Peter Kelly is a Toronto based multi-faceted dance artist, choreographer and producer. Peter completed his professional training from George Brown College's, Dance Performance Studies Program and is now the TD Dance Intern with Toronto Dance Theatre for the 2015/2016 season. With TDT he performed at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts; Fall for Dance North festival and Fleck Dance Theatre as part of NextSteps, canadian dance series under the company direction of Christopher House. In addition, Peter has performed in Fresh Blood presented by The Chimera Project, 19: Dancing in Solitude, Eros Cabaret, Making a Stage for Our Stories, Scott Fordams Body Talk: Flaunt Festival, Rock Bottom Movement's DIY Musical, Hanna Kiels newest emerging artist company; Young Human Body, and Ballet Pixelle. Most recently, Peter collaborated with Carolyn Morris to create Manifestations, a work that was presented at George Brown Dance's In Haus December 2015. To add to his experience, he has produced and/or stage managed multiple dance performances including Blueprint: an evening of emerging dance works, SummerWorks: Street vs. Stage and was a marketing intern with Canada's Ballet Jörgen. Peter is the artistic director of New Blue: festival of emerging dance, striving to catalyze the artistic careers of contemporary dancers ages 12 and up. CAROLYN MORRIS A native of Newfoundland, Carolyn Morris is now a Toronto based dancer, choreographer and teacher. Currently, Carolyn teaches at Tap Shoes and Tutus, a non- profit cooperative, dance program in Parkdale, Toronto. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science from Memorial University, Carolyn moved to Toronto to further herself as an artist through the Dance Performance Studies Program at George Brown College. Carolyn is currently the Dance department’s Ensemble Coordinator at George Brown College, as well as co creating Manifestations with Peter Kelly for the December 2015 In Haus show. As part of her professional experience, she has had the opportunity to perform at Sharing Dance Day, a community initiative presented by Canada's National Ballet School with choreographer, Lenny Dela Pena. She choreographed and performed for various artists at Blueprint; an evening of emerging dance works and presented a new work; Calibrated Capsaicin at Dine and Dance June 2015. Carolyn, a member of Impromptu Movements, performed at Too Queer: A Bi Visibility Cabaret and Fresh Blood October 2015, as well as presented her own piece, entitled We are No One. Carolyn is the General Manager of New Blue:festival of emerging dance, striving to catalyze the artistic careers of contemporary dancers ages 12 and up. |
